“staff members were wonderful”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    8 / 10

I have just completed my 1 week volunteering programme in Turkey, Istanbul. I have throughly enjoyed the programme and enjoyed working with the kids at the art school.

It was great to see how differently the art schools operate in Turkey compared to the UK.

Overall, I enjoyed my placement, met lots of different people and enjoyed the cultural society of Istanbul.

The country was great, there were lot so of things to see and do outside of our volunteering hours.

Project & Staff

The staff members of LV's local team were wonderful. They had given us a small booklet which gave us details of our project placement and school. They had thoroughly set out a timetable and how to get to our differently locations - which we thought was very helpful. The booklet also consisted of things about Turkey; e.g food, drink, social life, cultural etc etc

Likewise, the project member kept us up to date on things and helped us out on any queries we had.

I would advise others to check when schools are most busy e.g during summer time our summer location was not too busy - maybe this is something Love Volunteers could also note.

However this depends on the volunteer, as some may like busy environments and some may not.

I would also recommend volunteers to do some research on public transport as you may have to commute a lot & some countries e.g Turkey had a TravelCard which was used for ferries, trams and buses instead of paying cash etc
